  • A FINE ENAMEL DIAMOND-SET QUARTER REPEATING EIGHT DAY RECTANGULAR DESK TIMEPIECE CIRCA 1910
  • Enamel , diamond
  • height 85 mm, width 58 mm
• gilt brass movement, platform escapement, bi-metallic balance, repeating on gongs • white enamel dial, Breguet numerals, diamond-set arrow hands, outer minute track spaced with florets • guilloché rectangular case overlaid with translucent light blue enamel, bezel heightened by white enamel beads, opaque white enamel borders, the side panels centered by diamond-set florets, the top panel applied with a diamond-set monogram, repeating via a moonstone repeating pusher, surmounted upon a white jade base • dial signed Cartier, movement signed Nocturne, case hand-stamped with Cartier reference numbers       

Condition

The movement is numbered 4048, which is repeated on the interior frame of the bottom of the case, and on the interior sliding cover for the winding aperture. Movement running at time of cataloging, however not tested for the accuracy of time and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Chiming not in phase. Case in overall very good condition with no signs of restoration to the enamel, light surface scratches, wear to the edges and corners consistent with age. Discoloration to the corners of the pearlage to the bottom of the case above the base. The back left foot and back right foot with light chips. The dial in good condition with light scratches at 12 to 2 o'clock, no visible hairlines. Movement with patina and light scratches.
