Originality and singularity in the real world demands great courage, and for that MB&F is willing to devote all into the creation of mechanic wonders. MB&F stands for Maximillian Büsser & Friends, representing the ideal to gather the talents of various artists and watchmakers, the brand sets out on its mission to create unconventional and original horological masterpieces. Launched in 2010, Horological Machine No 4 Thunderbolt (HM4) was regarded as one of the most visually spectacular and ingenious wristwatches the watch world has ever seen. With its futuristic appearance, one would imagine the HM4 was created straight out of a science fiction but in reality, it was inspired by paintings of WWII aircrafts. The aerodynamic case and turbine-like pods bear much resemblance to the sleek form and engines of a military plane. Fitted with a three-dimensional horological engine which consists of 311 parts and a horizontal twin mainspring barrel, it took the brand 3 years to develop this technical marvel. In spite of the complex nature of the movement, the functionality of the HM4 is rather practical with separated indication of time and power reserve in individual dials.

The rarity of this particular timepiece lies not only on its unique design, but on the fact that it is truly one-of-a-kind. It is by far the only known example made in yellow gold and hence the ‘piece unique’ engraved on the watch. According to research, unique pieces from MB&F come in such an exiguity, making this work all the more precious and exceptional.
