Catalogue Note
Growing up as a child in the 1970s, MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser saw a period of great innovation - the first supersonic jets, the first moon expedition, the first Lamborghini Miura. The fifth watch of the Horological Machine collection, HM5 On the Road Again, pays direct homage to the revolutionary era that fuelled his imagination.
Like all Horological Machines, the design of HM5 is unconventional and offers a strong visual analogy with the source of inspiration. The distinctive wedge-shaped case of HM5 is inspired by the legendary Amida Digitrend, a LED watch made in the 70’s. It also adjures the era's fascination with supercars and takes references from the sleek low-slung Italian supercars Lamborghini Miura that emerged in the 70’s, which the slats on the back of the watch could be seen to mimic those on the rears of the car. On cars, the sloped and vented rears are to block sunlight and therefore heat. HM5 works in the opposite way that the slide-operated louvers open to allow light to be focused onto the Super-LumiNova numbers on the time disks to charge them. The optical-grade sapphire reflective prism to bend an image of the time disks 90 degrees to view on a vertical display, and thus the time can be easily read without taking one's hands off the wheel. The HM5 also has a sheltered inner case inside the main case, which resembles the chassis underneath an automobile’s body.
Sporting with the futuristic designs and precision mechanics, the 70’s inspired HM5 stands firm foundation in the very best of traditional horology. The series are released in Zirconium, rose gold and Carbonmacrolon version, each in a limited edition of 66 pieces.
