Condition

Good condition overall with some oxidation to the crevices of the hair and the back. Warm brown patina to the face. minor wear and oxidation to the base.

Catalogue Note

Francesco Jadicicco, père adoptif de Vincenzo Gemito, servit de modèle à cette tête de philosophe au regard déterminé. Le réalisme du modelage de la barbe, rehaussée d'une ciselure nerveuse, associé à l'hiératisme des modèles antiques, forment un dialogue entre moderne et ancien cher au sculpteur. Ce modèle fut présenté pour la première fois au public à Paris, lors de l'Exposition Universelle de 1900.
