Designed as a pansy, composed of two calibré-cut and engraved amethyst petals, accented by calibré-cut buff-top amethysts and small rose-cut diamonds, centering one old European-cut diamond, highlighted with purple and yellow enamel, with French assay and partial maker's marks; circa 1880.

Condition

In good condition. The carved amethysts are medium light pinkish purple and eye-clean and the French-cut amethysts are medium light pinkish purple and range in clarity from eye-clean to lightly included. Some of the facets show minor abrasions consistent with age and wear. The diamonds are approximately I-J color, VS-SI clarity. The enamelling is bright purple and yellow and fully intact. The gold exhibits some minor tarnish to the reverse which is not evident when worn. There is a partially rubbed maker's mark on the pinstem which might be for Fontenay. Length 2 1/2 inches.
