Exhibited

In 1925, the Count de Grunne commissioned François Pompon to make a wooden sculpture of the ‘Sanglier’, based on the plaster model created in 1924. In 1927, the Count finally decided to replace it with our bronze model.
Only five examples of the ‘Sanglier’ were produced by Valsuani from 1926 to 1932, including this sculpture, which remained with the commissioner’s family since its creation.
The Count Eugène de Grunne was one of the most important collectors of François Pompon in the 1920s. Sotheby’s sold a ‘Grue couronnée au repos, aigrette lisse’ from the same collection on the 26th of November 2013.

Catalogue Note
