Condition

This work is in excellent condition overall. The surface is clean and smooth. Only under raking light and very close inspection are some extremely minor and faint superficial abrasions visible along the back center turning edges. There is a very minor irregularity in the surface layer on the back face of the plane, which is only visible under close inspection and appears to be inherent to the process.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.

Catalogue Note

“Good artwork is like a [good] person: It needs presence, separation and connectedness to everything around it. It needs awareness of infinity, but presence in the now.”  John McCracken
