Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There is some oxidisation and light surface dust in places notably to the recesses. Extremely close inspection in raking light reveals some thin, shallow and unobtrusive surface scratches scattered in isolated places. All other surface irregularities appear to be inherent to the artist's working process.

Catalogue Note

“Beyond representation or abstraction, beyond the references to informalism or to the Pop esthetic, what defines and distinguishes Valdés’ work is its compositional structure, its syntax in creating images, in its confrontation between colour and material, between form and construction, between line and texture, between melancholy lyric and arte povera atmosphere.”
