Condition

Overall the condition of the marble is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few chips, notably to the edge of the bow on the left side and to the bottom of the lace of the bow tie. There are a few naturally occurring inclusions, notably to the bridge of the nose and to the cheek, both with fill. There are some minor chips and abrasions to the outer edges of the oval relief, partially concealed by the frame at the front. There are a few scratches and dirt marks, notably to the truncation at the shoulder. There is very minor veining to the marble consistent with the material. The wood frame is in good condition, with some wear to the gilding and polychromy, including craquelure and some minor paint losses. A piece of the foliate decoration at the top is loose.
