Condition

The canvas has a firm relining, the paint surface is stable with a clear and even varnish, and there are no major damages visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals two campaigns of extensive scattered retouchings throughout. The boys outfit has less retouchings that his face, hair, hands and the background. This lot is offered in a simple carved and gilt wood oval frame in good condition.

Catalogue Note

William, 7th Baron Craven succeeded his father in 1791 and was created Viscount Uffington and Earl of Craven in 1801.  He married in 1807 Louisa Brunton, a celebrated actress.
