Description

portraying a traveler on a mule led by his attendant in a landscape of mountains and lakes, inscribed with a poetic couplet and a dedicatory inscription, signed Wang Youtang, with one seal reading yin, mounted as a table screen
Catalogue Note
The poetic couplet may be translated as 'since young I have held a real love of poetry and books, just as mountains and water hold true beauty'. The plaque is dedicated to Li Jie for his enjoyment.
Wang Youtang was a student of Cheng Men, a Qianjiang style porcelain artist active during the Late Qing dynasty who passed away prior to 1908. The Qianjiang style, which is characterized by its use of a restrained palette in pale washes, aims to recreate the look of watercolors.
