Description

  • porcelain
  • 36.5cm, 14 1/4 in.
the rounded sides rising to a waisted neck and rolled rim, painted with arched panels of birds amongst flowers and rockwork in a fenced garden, below a further band of florets and ruyi, below smaller bird and flower panels on a latticed ground

Condition

This jar is in good condition, but has a number of scratches to the surface of the glaze to the sides which is consistent with its age. There is a linear inconsistency to the body at the base to one side (which is not a firing crack) and there is also below this, a 1cm area of glaze that has slightly misfired (to a matt finish) all the way around above the foot. There are some iron spots and burst bubbles to the glaze, with a large one just below the next to one side and one to the shoulder to the other. The blue is a little darker than in the catalogue illustration.
