Provenance

Sotheby's New York, 26th November 1991, lot 458.

Condition

One chair is slightly higher and wider than the second chair. On both chairs the crest rail is made of 5 elements forming the arch and two more elements to the front that continue in one piece and form the front legs. On the crest rail of the larger chair there are two areas where the wood of the joined parts shows some repair along cracks. The back, side and front stretchers and footrest on both chairs may be later replacements (?). Otherwise wear consistent with age. There is a hole in the middle of the woven seat on the smaller chair.
