Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Minor marks, nicks, scratches and small chips to the superb thick fine patina. Worn base.

Catalogue Note

Témoignant du goût de René et Odette Delenne pour une esthétique de la force, cette statuette se pose en contrepoint du classicisme raffiné de la statuaire Baulé. Utilisée par un devin, cette figure d'Asie Usu - représentation d'un "génie de la brousse" sous la forme d'un bel humain - disparaît sous l'épais surmodelage de patine sacrificielle, pour imposer sa singulière prégnance.
