heavily cast in the form of a strange stone copying a large pierced black lingbi limestone, patinated to a greenish-black colour, cast with a two-character maker’s mark or owner’s seal reading cangxin shi ('Stone of the Heart Collection'), carved wood stand

It is rare to find a bronze of this large size, simulating a lingbi scholar's rock, but for a smaller bronze in the form of a brushrest, but with similar style of lost-wax casting, see Paul Moss and Gerard Hawthorn, The Second Bronze Age: Later Chinese Metalwork, Sydney Moss Ltd., London, 1991, cat. no. 32.
