Catalogue Note

As the art of printing spread throughout Europe, one of the most important geographical works of the sixteenth century was the Cosmography of Sebastian Münster, published in Basel between 1544 and 1620. It was a remarkable encyclopaedia of cultural history and geography collected from information supplied by scholars from all over Europe.

This copy has been "revisto et corretto" in accordance with the restrictions made by the Index of Prohibited Books relating to works published by Protestants, so each mention of Münster in the text has been crossed through.
