Condition

This early contact print, on smooth double-weight paper with a faint surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. There is faint silvering in the black margin edges, which also exhibit some wear and chipping. The right edge of the image is warm-toned. Upon very close examination, the following are visible: areas of original retouching overall; and a few extremely faint scratches or possibly graphite in the upper portion of the sky. The reverse of the print is appropriately age-darkened at the edges. The 'Changing New York' caption stamp on the reverse is annotated in ink with the following information: Title: 'Water Front: South Street' Place: 'Manhattan' Neg. # '32' Code: 'I.D.' Date: 'October 25 1935'
