Small paint loss in the impasto peak to the left of the figure. Two zones of fine craquelure in the centre and the right of the blue area.

Catalogue Note
Dargestellt ist die Sicht etwas oberhalb von Maloja über die sanften Hügel auf den blau schimmernden Silsersee. In der Bildmitte wäscht eine Engadinerin an einem sonnigen Sommertag des Jahres 1924 Leinentücher am Bach.
Die Geländesenkung, welche ganz in der Nähe des Ateliers und Wohnhauses von Giovanni Giacometti liegt, hat der Maler zu verschiedenen Jahreszeiten festgehalten. Für die Entstehungszeit typisch ist der weite Ausblick in die Landschaft; eine Kompositionstechnik, welche Giacometti besonders in seiner späten Schaffenszeit bevorzugte.
Es erstaunt nicht, dass dieses reizvolle und farbintensive Landschaftsbild mit den blühenden Matten in namhafte Schweizer Sammlungen einging wie in die Sammlungen Brodbeck-Sandreuter und Arthur Stoll. Es handelt sich hier um ein wunderbares postimpressionistisches Alpenbild.

The painting depicts the view above Maloja across the smooth hills on the blue shimmering lake of Sils. In the centre of the painting, a native woman washes linen clothes in the stream. It is a sunny summer day in 1924.
Giovanni Giacometti captured the sloping terrain near his workshop and home in different seasons. The wide view across the landscape is typical for the period the work originates from. It is a compositional technique preferred by Giacometti in the late period of his work.
It is not surprising that this appealing and colourful landscape painting with flowering meadows entered distinguished collections such as the Brodbeck-Sandreuter Collection or the Arthur Stoll Collection. The present work is an exquisite postimpressionist painting of the Alps.
