Description

  • François Bocion
  • Bord du lac à Rivaz, 1883
  • Unten rechts signiert und datiert
  • Öl auf Leinwand
  • 107 x 166 cm

Rivaz, a small village of winegrowers, lies halfway between Lausanne and Montreux. The municipality stretches from a steeply descending terrain in the midst of vineyards down to the shores of Lake Geneva. At Rivaz’ shore, fishermen in the foreground of the painting are busy with their rowing boats. In the centre of the painting, a sailboat slides over the smooth lake surface, passing a rock emerging from the water. In the distance, a steamboat passes along the scenery of the Valais mountains.

François Bocion was a master when it comes to the representation of atmospheric moods and impressionist light effects.
