  • ivory, tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, wood, paper, silk, spangles
comprising a German ivory fan, the sticks pierced with the name: Sophie, the guards carved with an accolĂ© coat-of-arms, the silk leaf painted with medallions of putti and flowers representing the Four Seasons, circa 1858, 27.5cm., 10 7/8 in long; and 15 other examples in various materials (4 with ivory sticks and guards, 4 mother-of-pearl, 2 wood, 5 tortoiseshell), with painted or spangled paper, vellum or fabric leaves

The arms on the first fan are those of Princess Sophie of Baden (1834-1904) and those of her husband, Prince Woldemar of Lippe (1824-1895), whom she married in 1858.
