Condition

The full sheets, printed to the edges, in good condition with fresh colours. Five of the ten sheets have some areas of superficial skinning on the verso through the vertical centre of the sheet, not visible recto. Each sheet has three or four minor handling creases near the sheet edges, many with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface and all only visible upon close inspection in a raking light. Detailed condition for the individual sheets: F90 – a few handling creases toward the sheet edges at lower left and right, visible in a raking light. F91 – a few handling creases toward the sheet edges, most noticeably at upper right with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface, visible only upon close inspection. The verso with some superficial skinning at the sheet centre, one layer of paper reattached (measuring approx. 3.8 by 3.8cm). F92 – a tiny tear (9mm) at right of lower sheet edge, a few soft handling creases towards the sheet edges, visible in a raking light. The extreme upper left sheet corner slightly softened. The verso with a few areas of superficial skinning through the centre of the sheet. F93 – a few soft handling creases in the upper portion of the sheet and lower left, with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface, one at upper right with minute ink losses, all only visible upon close inspection. F94 – a few handling creases in the background and shirt, with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface, only visible upon close inspection. F95 – a few longer (9cm) diagonal handling creases in the background at upper left, with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface, visible in a raking light. Three further minor handling creases at right, lower right, and lower left sheet edges, the two at right and lower left with hairline surface cracks in the ink. F96 – a 7.8cm flattened diagonal crease across the lower right sheet corner, with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface and a minute ink loss and a nick at right sheet edge. Three further minor handling creases in his nose and in the background at upper right, the two in the background with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface, visible upon close inspection. The verso with areas of surface skinning in places through the centre of the sheet. F97 – a few handling creases towards the sheet edges, some with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface, a further diagonal handling crease in his forehead and hair. A short (1.7cm) horizontal crease along the extreme lower left sheet edge. The verso with minor surface skinning in places through the centre of the sheet. F98 – a soft diagonal crease across the lower sheet corners, the right with two associated minor hairline cracks in the ink surface (measuring approx. 7.3 and 11cm), two soft handling creases in the background, one at upper right with associated intermittent hairline cracks in the ink surface are visible upon close inspection. The very tip of the upper left corner slightly softened. Several areas of the paper surface on the verso are slightly roughened. F99 – a few handling creases towards the sheet edges with associated hairline cracks in the ink surface, all only visible upon close inspection. The verso with minor surface skinning in sections of the vertical centre of the sheet.
