Description

  • Berenice Abbott
  • 'HENRY STREET'
  • Gelatin silver print
numbered '48' in the negative, the photographer's Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' and caption stamps, with title, date, and annotations in ink, on the reverse, 1935 (Yochelson, Lower East Side, pl. 8)

Condition

This pleasingly warm-toned early contact print, on smooth double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. The small lighter area in the upper-right portion of the sky is a flaw in the negative and not a defect of the present print. The black margins are rubbed along the upper and right edges, the right edge is lightly rippled, and the corners are bumped. The reverse of the print is appropriately age-darkened at the edges and lightly soiled. The 'Changing New York' caption stamp on the reverse is annotated in ink with the following information: Title: 'Henry Street' Place: 'Manhattan' Date: 'Nov 29 1935' Neg. # '48' Code: 'I A 5'
