Catalogue Note

This painting has been dated by Peter Cherry as a relatively early work by the artist.1  It is close in style to a number of pictures of flowers in vases from the mid-1640s and to the pair of masterpieces, Festoons of Flowers with a Cartouche Surrounding a Landscape, signed and dated 1652, in the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid.
