Catalogue Note

Although we have not been able to relate the present drawing to any known painting by Palma, this composition with kneeling figures in the foreground and a similar architectural setting in the background can be found in several of his works.  The skilful use of the pen and the subtlety of the wash and white heightening against the blue paper are very characteristic of his style.
