Catalogue Note

Cotman travelled to North Wales with the artist Paul Sandby Munn (1773-1845) in 1802. The pair are known to have sketched together, and a watercolour by Munn of this view, almost identical in composition to the present work, was engraved by Samuel Middiman (1750–1831) and published in 1807.
