This picture is slightly more yellow in tone than the ctalogue illustration suggests. It has an old relining and is still slightly loose in the stretcher. The pait surface is not too pressed preserving the wonderful and intricate lacework. A dirty varnish covers the whole picture, and requires standard cleaning by a professional restorer. Parts of the background are more worn than others, creating a subtle unevennes when viewed at close proximity. There seems to be gold pigment in the ground visible in thinner areas, which is quite beautiful. Some light scuffing at the very edges of the composition due to frame rubbing. Despite the layer of dirty varnish there is quality clearly discernible. The fleshtones are well- executed and their softness is beautifully contrasted with the crisp forms of the lacework and jewellery. The embroidery and costume are elaborate and the turqoise, gold, and white brilliantly combined. On her forehead the edges of the paint flakes are beginning to lift slightly so this will require some minor attention. This strong portrait makes a striking display and it would undoubtedly only benefit from a clean. The sitter, her manner, and her costume are portrayed with a great deal of sophistication. It is offered in a gilt frame with simple decorative moudlings, scratched in places.
