Condition

The panel is uncradled and stable, with only a slight bow. It is beveled on all sides. The paint surface has been recently cleaned and is in excellent condition. Impasto details are well-presevred, and pentimenti are visible in the ruff and face of the sitter. Restoration is limited to very small scattered retouchings in the centre of the man's chest and in both sleeves, in the background and in one or two parts of his face. There is some minor infilling of craquelure in the sitter's beard.
