  • Two fine autograph love-letters addressed to the singer Rose Ader ("Adorata mia"), signed ("Giacomo")
  • paper
declaring that his love for her has revitalized him, improved his health and enabled him to to work better [on his opera Turandot], confessing that before they met he languished without reason for living, but that now he can face her absence with equanimity, as their love is eternal; he explains that it is difficult to express affection in public and he cannot always write as he would like, but promises to advance her career as a singer, concerning which he is waiting to hear from his friend Schnabl

4 pages, 8vo, one letter in pencil and one in black ink, printed stationery of Torre del Lago, 2 autograph envelopes, with stamps, midnight 13/14 May and 30 July 1921

Rose Ader, though a generation younger than Puccini, was the greatest passion of his last years. His letters to her are mostly unpublished and are deeply personal and intimate. Count Riccardo Schnabl was almost a life-long friend of Puccini. Their correspondence from 1899-1924 survives in Milan Conservatory. Schnabl coached Rose Ader in the title-role of Suor Angelica, in 1921.
