67 fragments from at least 25 separate documents, including: (a) list of taxes in Greek, 150mm. by 115mm., remains of 17 lines in black ink, collection item ā€˜Dā€™, losses of text with one large section (110mm. by 85mm.) and 4 smaller now remaining, third century BC.; (b) 2 exceptionally large documents containing excerpts of legal contracts in Greek: i: 460mm. by 150mm. and ii: 2 fragments of approximately 250mm. by 12mm. each, the former with remains of 14 quite legible lines, the latter more rubbed with only the second fragment now easily legible, collection nos. 24-25, both third or second century BC.; (c) import list concerning salt, in Greek, one large composite of total 335mm. by 335mm., with 3 columns of 26 lines, columns almost complete, collection no. 1, some rubbing to left-hand edge and small losses at base, third century BC.; (d) import list in Greek addressing Ptolemy the Arab (doubtless a foreigner whose name has been domesticated to Ptolemy) and his Egyptian or Greek followers, Psenpsous, son of Apynchis, Taurinos, son of Phobas and Psenous, son of Petosiris, composite of 4 large pieces, in total 245mm. by 220mm., 16 lines remaining, collection no. 5, second century BC.; (e) remains of a contract in Greek, 250mm. by 150mm., some losses from corners with lower right-hand quarter missing, collection no. 4, second century BC.; (f) import list in Greek, 180mm. by 115mm., 12 lines, rectangular piece with few losses, collection no. 8, second century BC.; plus 39 other pieces of second to first century BC. and 2 later pieces of fifth century AD.; all mounted in glass or perspex

Catalogue Note

From the collection of Anton Fackelmann (1916-86), conservator of the Vienna Papyrus Sammlung, and presumably recovered from mummy cartonnage. Other literary items from this important collection were sold in our rooms, 8 December 2009, lots 35-38 and 10 July 2012 (Schøyen sale), lot 1.
