Keely Smith is an American Music Icon affectionately known as “The Queen of Swing”.  Her musical legacy spans nearly six decades and has captivated fans of every generation around the world.

As a youth Keely demonstrated her vocal talent at local events but her career took off when she was hired by the charismatic bandleader, singer-songwriter, Louis Prima.  Louis and Keely then went on to develop a signature sound that is still being heard the world over.  Keely’s stylish contribution to the mix ran the vocal gamut from torch to jazz.  Together they made music history with a distinct personality, and their biggest hit was a rousing rendition of “That Old Black Magic”.  Their performances at The Sahara’s Casbah Lounge were dubbed “The Wildest Show in Las Vegas” and on any given night, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. would join them on stage, turning the lounge into the Rat Pack clubhouse with Louis and Keely as its King and Queen hosting the hottest party in town.  Keely and Louis went on to headline showrooms internationally and across the United States.

In 1957 Keely recorded her first solo track, “I Wish You Love”, which became her theme song. The album garnered Keely a Best Pop Vocal Grammy nomination in 1958, the same year she and Louis took home a Grammy for “That Old Black Magic”.  She appeared regularly on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Dean Martin Show, The Frank Sinatra Show (with whom she recorded several duets), The Tonight Show and most recently The Jimmy Kimmel Show.

Keely’s hits with Louis Prima and as a solo artist are firmly rooted in the fabric of our popular culture.  In the 1990’s with the resurgence of the Swing craze, a whole new generation of hip young fans discovered the “Queen of Swing”.  From sold out runs at the House of Blues, to her Grammy nomination in 2001 for the album “Keely Sings Sinatra”, to her performance with Kid Rock on the 50th Anniversary of the Grammys, the legacy of Keely Smith lives on.

Keely has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from The National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences and The Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs.  Her final appearances before her retirement in 2012 included the legendary Café Carlyle in New York.  Keely’s distinctive sound and style have withstood the test of time and her legacy will live on and be remembered in the history books as one of the greatest singers of the twentieth century.
