Condition

Original canvas. The canvas is slightly loose in its stretcher, and there is a tiny area of undulation at the extreme bottom left corner. There are areas of fine reticulation to the black pigment on the far right hand side of the composition, with one or two slight and minor instances of cracking to the thicker paint in the fold of the canvas at the extremes, only visible upon extremely close inspection. There are traces of light surface dirt, matter and studio detritus visible upon very close inspection including a few elements running horizontally in the lower third of the work. There are a few tiny, minor specks of paint loss to the bottom half of the piece, which are only visible upon very close inspection. There is very slight flattening to one or two of the thicker raised elements of impasto. This excepting the work appears in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals two small, fine horizontal lines of fluorescence and possible retouching in the bottom left corner, with further traces of fluorescence appearing elsewhere which appear in keeping with the nature of the materials and does not suggest retouching. Unframed. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
