Condition

The canvas was mounted on Masonite at some point, which is supported by the original stretcher. Under ultraviolet light isolated retouches can be seen. Some of the colors that read darkly under ultraviolet light do not correspond to restoration. In the center of the work there is a diagonal scratch running though the undergrowth, measuring about 2 inches, that has attracted restoration. There is another thin line of restoration in the mountains in the upper center measuring about 4 inches. There are some isolated dots of retouching in the undergrowth and the darker colors. There is a fairly large area of loss in the lower left, measuring about 4 x 3 inches, a smaller loss in the lower center and another in the lower left. Actual abrasion to the paint layer and weakness to the details has not occurred. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
