Condition

The canvas is lined. There is a layer of varnish preventing the UV from fully penetrating. However, UV examination does reveal scattered spots of retouching, the most prominent of which are to the left side of the sitter's face and some areas to the hair, hand and towel. There is a further spot of retouching to the left side of the lower edge. There are a few spots of paint loss to the extreme corners and in places along all four edges. There are a further few tiny spots of paint loss to the sitter's chin, a spot to her hair and hand and in places towards the lower edge. There are a few fine lines of craquelure. This work is in overall fairly good condition. Colours: overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue.
