Condition

The canvas is not lined. Examination under UV light reveals some fluorescence, mainly to the white background which does not seem to pertain to any retouchings. There appear to be some lines of retouching in places to the lower red flower on the left side of the composition. There are some lines of craquelure throughout some of the thickly painted petals, a few of which have some associated paint loss, most prominent of which can be seen to the rightmost orange flower. There are pin holes to each of the four corners and some light dust in the paint's crevices. The impasto is marvellously thick and this work is in overall very good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though the red and orange tones are brighter in the original.
