Catalogue Note

With a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, an interchangeable 18k pink gold case back, setting pin, winding box and presentation box.

After 18 successful years, the legendary Ref. 5016 Grand Complication with minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar, retrograde date, and moon phases unveils its new identity with the fresh Ref. 5216.  This timepiece brings minute repeater to a further level of sophistication by launching the legendary caliber R TO 27 PS QR LU movement with the five most popular complications in a perceptibly larger case that encloses a more voluminous resonant cavity to enhance the sonority of the chimes.

With over 170 years of history, Patek Philippe has managed to make its name a synonym of the highest quality complications with minute repeating function.  The production of wristwatches with minute repeaters is still delivered by the most skilled watchmakers and the movements are regarded as some of the most complex of watch mechanisms. It can easily take up to 200 to 300 hours to assemble and after which the watch must be perfectly tuned to the superlative standard of sound which Patek Philippe is famous of.  The final test and approval will then be carried out by the President Mr. Thierry Stern himself to guarantee the ultimate perfection.

This new Grand Complication follows in the footsteps of the famous Ref. 5016 that was launched in 1993 and has been widely popular among aficionados. Until the Sky Moon Tourbillon was introduced in 2001, it was Patek Philippe's most complicated wristwatch. Now, the new Ref. 5216R ranks number 4 in this category in current production, behind the new Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 6002, the new Triple Complication Ref. 5208, and the Ref. 5207 first presented in 2008.
