Catalogue Note

With a Patek Philippe special folder containing Certificate of Origin, specifications, instruction manual, setting pin and a presentation box with outer packaging.

Despite being regarded as the most prestigious watch brand on the planet, it is often complained that Patek Philippe is relatively conservative with its design.  Launched at the Basel fair in 2010, Patek Philippe challenged our sensual experience with its ref. 5951, the new monopusher rattrapante chronograph with perpetual calendar wristwatch, proving that not only it has the disciplines and skills to keep the traditions but also the courage and vision to push forward innovation.

The movement is designed based on caliber CHR 27-525 PS, the thinnest column-wheel-controlled split-seconds chronograph movement, which can be seen in ref. 5959 and the new ref. 5950A and boasts the addition of a perpetual calendar module that adds a mere 2.05 mm in height, adding up to an overall height of just 7.3 mm, making it the thinnest rattrapante chronograph with perpetual calendar ever crafted by Patek Philippe. The new caliber CHR 27-525 PS Q  is exclusively hand-crafted one by one due to its extreme complexity.

The design of the dial is both sporty and contemporary which is completely new for Patek Philippe watches.  Daring and unconventional appearance of the dial with no fewer than 12 indications is easily readable.  Standard time is indicated with leaf-shaped white-gold hands and applied baton-style hour markers. For contrast, short-time measurements are tracked with red hands. The cushion-form case is reminiscent of the manufacture's first split-seconds chronograph with art-deco design that dates back to the 1920s.

Produced exclusively in platinum and offered in pristine condition, the Patek Philippe ref. 5951 make its auction debut in Sotheby’s Hong Kong saleroom, providing a fantastic and rare opportunity for the most loyal and faithful collector of the brand.
