  • A VERY RARE ENAMEL AND SILVER GILT CLOCK WITH TIME THERMOMETER AND BAROMETER INDICATION TO BE DISPLAYED ON A CAR DASHBOARD CIRCA 1907
  • Enamel, gold, silver-gilt, rock cristal, leather
  • diameter 15 cm
• gilt lever movement • three subsidiary white enamel dials featuring indication of time, thermometer, barometer, graduated with Arabic numerals •  round shape with a leather back, two holes to hang the clock on the dashboard, winder with time adjustment button, the front decorated in a neo-classical style, outer ring in silver gilt stamped with French hallmarks, inner translucent blue enamel, turquoise outer ring on subsidiary dials, inner white enamel decorated with stars • dial signed

Condition

Please note that the movement has not been checked for timekeeping accuracy and Sotheby's will not be held responsible for any repairs should they be require. The enamel is beautifully preserved with one small hairline below the thermometer. The mechanism needs a revision. Overall this is a very rare example of early Cartier production because of its great condition and the fact that it is complete in its original presentation case.

Catalogue Note

This very rare car dashboard timepiece was produced by Cartier in 1907, most probably by their London workshop. It is one of the first pieces of horology ever produced by Cartier. A similar piece can be found in the Cartier historical collection.
