Description

  • J.E. Caldwell
  • platinum, diamond, emerald
The scrollwork motifs set with two marquise-shaped diamonds weighing approximately 1.35 carats, accented by round and baguette diamonds weighing approximately 3.00 carats, further decorated with square and calibré-cut emeralds, signed JE.C & Co., numbered T9052; circa 1930; with removable carriage for wear as two separate brooches.

Condition

In good condition. The diamonds are approximately F-H color, VVS-VS clarity. The emeralds are well matched for color, a medium bluish green, lightly to moderately included with several examples bearing small surface reaching inclusions or chips. Highly sculptural and well made. Signed and numbered on both clips and the carrier. Carrier slides over one clip's pin bridge, then has a component which slides into a notch on that clip's reverse. The other clip can then be hooked in easily.

Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
