18 Karat Gold, Gem-Set and Diamond Brooch, René Boivin, France

Designed as a dolphin set with round sapphires and emeralds, with a cabochon emerald eye, suspending an oval-shaped sapphire weighing approximately 13.00 carats, further decorated with round and pear-shaped diamonds weighing approximately .60 carat, signed René Boivin, with French assay and maker's marks; circa 1960.

In good condition. The large sapphire is medium light slightly violetish blue, lightly included with some color zoning evident under direct light. The smaller sapphires are a medium to medium deep slightly violetish blue, lightly to moderately included, several showing abrading to the facet junctions under magnification. The cabochon emerald is a light bluish green, moderately included. The faceted emeralds are a medium bluish green, lightly to moderately included with several exhibiting surface reaching fractures. The diamonds are approximately H-I color, VS-SI clarity. The dolphin is stylistically rendered and very well made.
