Catalogue Note

Elements of these chairs are very similar to the work of Giles Grendey, particularly the shell-carved knees to the cabriole legs.  The overall form and carving is also similar to the work of William Bradshaw, Paul Saunders and the firm of Whittle and Norman.

An identical chair with M. Harris & Sons is illustrated in their A Catalogue and Index of Old Furniture and Works of Decorative Art, part II, p. 212, no F21988.
