Catalogue Note

The finesse of the modelling of the present statuette compares well to the statuettes representing Saint John the Baptist in a Missouri private collection and the Bargello attributed to Jacopo Sansovino by Bruce Boucher (op.cit.) and Giancarlo Gentilini. Both the present model and Sansovino's Saint John were emulated by the so-called Master of the David and St John Statuettes.
