Chancery folio (201 x 132mm., trimmed to the printed area and inlaid to later sheet), single leaf only ([P4], folio 302), 29 lines, bâtarde type (Caxton's Type 2), two initial letters supplied in red with printed guides, watermark of the letter P surmounted by a quatrefoil (Caxton's stock 15)

A single leaf from Caxton's first edition of Chaucer, one of the first books Caxton printed after moving his press from Flanders to England. This leaf presents 58 lines from 'The Monk's Tale' and includes the complete exempla of Ugolino of Pisa.
