Catalogue Note

Founded circa 1730 by Robert Gillow the firm of Gillows produced luxury furniture for over 110 years, catering to members of the Royal Family, aristocratic patrons and the taste-makers of the day.

The gadrooned bun feet and high quality rosewood veneers used on this table are typical of Gillows output from the early 19th century. For a design of a table with similar octagonal stem and tri-form base see a drawing from their estimate sketch book of 1822, no. 3146. And for a table with similar gadrooned feet from 1837, see Susan Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, Woodbridge, 2008, p.270, pl.278.
