Catalogue Note

"I'm trying to equalize the world to say there is no high and low... It's about tapping into a material's power and figuring out what it wants to do. The painting has changed over time. The colors have become rotten and pungent, more complex. It's become more interesting... Is it bubblegum, or is it an abstract painting using bubblegum?" -Dan Colen (interviewed by Edward Helmore, The Guardian, May 9, 2014)
