The painting is in very good condition. the curtain on the artist's knees is heightenend with gold. The paper is very thin and wrapped in the upper part of the work.

On retrouve cette composition avec quelques variantes et sur fond de Kasbah, en couverture des Lettres de FL Schmied, 1924-1941, correspondance autographe entre l'artiste et son mécène Jacques André (vendu chez Sotheby's Paris, le 17 juin 2009, lot 72). Une gravure de sujet très proche illustre Le paradis Musulman, selon les textes de J.C.Madrus. Enfin, un autre autoportrait a été exposé au Pavillon de Marsan en janvier 1934.
This composition was used for the cover image for Lettres de FL Schmied, 1924-1941, a handwritten correspondence between the artist and his patron, Jacques André (sold at Sotheby’s Paris, lot 72). An engraving of a similar subject matter served as an illustration for the book Le paradis musulman published, 1930. Another self-portrait of the artist was shown at the Pavillon de Marsan in January 1934.
