Condition

Original canvas. A few faint signs of craquelure in the central red curtain, to the green screen and in the sofa lower right, only visible upon close inspection. The surface is dirty and should benefit from a light clean, otherwise the work appears in good overall condition. Under ultraviolet light there appear to be no signs of retouching. Held in a wooden frame with a velvet inset.

Catalogue Note

The present work depicts Honor, Letitia Hamilton's niece, at her home in Ahakista, County Cork. Honor was particularly close to her aunt, and Letitia would visit often, painting the house, garden and surrounding countryside.
