Catalogue Note

The mystical "Tercer Ojo" [Third Eye] is a recurring symbol in Kahlo's work: the eye that looks after, the eye that cries, the watching eye. In her painting "Diego y Yo" (1949) Kahlo depicts herself, crying, with a portrait of Rivera on her forehead, and a third eye on his.
