Catalogue Note

An immaculate copy of an important miniature children's book, containing the first (surviving) appearance of "This Little Pig Went to Market," "Little Boy Blue," and other nursery rhymes. The only earlier collection of nursery rhymes, Tommy Thumb's Song Book (1744), survives only in a single copy of its second volume (at the British Library). Copies of the present edition are recorded at Cambridge (University Library), Bloomington (Lilly), New York (Pierpont Morgan), Toronto (Osborne collection), and Los Angeles (University of California).
