Catalogue Note

Inviting Mary to Edinburgh.

Written to a young friend (perhaps Mary Watson rather than his sister Mary), in the publication year of his Through the Looking Glass: "Here I am, as you see. How long I shall stay, I know no more than you do. But I thought, if you should happen to come to Edinburgh, it would be a pity I shouldn't have a chance of seeing you. So just ask for me here, if you do come, but don't be very angry if I'm not in: and don't think of coming on purpose!"
