Catalogue Note

In 1934, the White Star-Cunard liner, the 'RMS Queen Mary' was launched. Roberts & Belk was commissioned the flatware for the second class section, for which Walter Belk had designed the art deco pattern 'Plain pine', registered in 1934 as Rd 798068. The design was so popular that Roberts & Belk were wired from New York to supply more when the ship returned to Southampton as thousands of pieces had gone missing from the ship's stock.
